Spreadsheet import

Units, registries, classes, enrollments, teachers per class and invitation recipients can come in through a CSV, XLS or XLSX spreadsheet.

Three steps

  1. File — upload the spreadsheet or paste its content.
  2. Columns — the system suggests which column goes to which field. It is a suggestion: check it before moving on. Columns left out are listed by name.
  3. Preview — shows how many rows will be created, updated and rejected.

The preview is the real import

The preview runs the complete import and undoes it at the end. The numbers it shows are exactly what will happen when you confirm.

Rejected rows appear with the row number as in Excel and the reason.

Importing again

Importing the same spreadsheet again updates instead of duplicating: each row is recognized by its code (of the unit, item or class) or by the person's identifier in the academic system.

In the unit structure, the parent may come after the child in the spreadsheet. Changing a unit's parent on a new import is refused: moving a unit takes everything below it along, and that must be a decision made on screen, not the effect of a wrong column.

Recipients

Importing recipients creates the invitations but does not send them — sending is a separate action. The survey's breakdown columns (unit, course, class) come along, and they are what allow filtering responses later.
