What counts as a business day
Case-handling deadlines and merit review deadlines are counted in business days: Monday to Friday, except national holidays.
National holidays
These do not count as business days:
- January 1 (New Year's Day)
- Good Friday (its date changes every year, following Easter)
- April 21 (Tiradentes Day)
- May 1 (Labour Day)
- September 7 (Independence Day)
- October 12 (Our Lady of Aparecida)
- November 2 (All Souls' Day)
- November 15 (Republic Day)
- November 20 (Black Consciousness Day, since 2024)
- December 25 (Christmas Day)
When the deadline skips a holiday, the screen says which one: "due on 12/28/2026 · 12/25 is a national holiday (Christmas Day)".
What still counts as a business day
These days do count as business days, and the deadline runs on them:
- Optional days off: Carnival Monday and Tuesday, Ash Wednesday and Corpus Christi.
- State or municipal holidays, including the city's anniversary.
- Breaks of the school or the institution.
A holiday that falls on a Saturday or Sunday does not move to Monday: Monday is still a business day.
Until what time
The deadline ends at the end of the day of the last business day, in universal time (UTC) — 8:59 p.m. in Brasília.
A deadline already recorded does not change
The due date is calculated when the step starts and is recorded. A deadline calculated before national holidays started to count stays as it was calculated. When the step starts again (advance, reopening or return), the new deadline already follows this rule.
